Bordeaux News: Uncertain future for Fauchon Bordeaux
The French national chain Fauchon opened its first ever franchise in Bordeaux city centre just over a year ago in December 2010. The specialised delicatessen began safeguard procedures to prevent insolvency last October at which time one of the co owners, Olivier Boyer told the Sud Ouest "The establishment of our business, both shop and tea room, has proven more difficult than we expected, it takes time and we are a little below the forecast”
It appears the company which opened the shop and tea room, centrally located next to the Regent Hotel and directly opposite the Grand Théâtre in Bordeaux was unable to meet its’ forecasted 2.5million euros turnover and the Christmas shopping period was not as successful as anticipated. According to the Sud Ouest, the Bordeaux branch of the well known group could close within two weeks.
Other national chains have tried and failed to win over the Bordelais (Hédiard), however independent fine food shops appear to have more success in the Aquitaine capital.
Perhaps this weekend will be the last chance to have a Fauchon tea overlooking the Grand Théâtre in Bordeaux.
